40 trade unionists murdered in 2009: CUT http://colombiareports.com/colombia-news/news/8053-40-trade-unionists-murdered-in-2009.html
Since CUT was founded in 1986, they have recorded 2,721 murders of trade unionists, 573 of which occured since August 2002 when Colombian President Alvaro Uribe was elected."More than a statistic, this is a movement of trade unionist genocide," Vanegas said at the open of the meeting.Luciano Sanin, the director of ENS, another trade union movement based in Medellin, illustrated the magnitude of the problem with the example that Brazil, a country which as 20 times more trade unionists than Colombia but only had four trade unionist murders in 2009.
Colombian Trade Unionists Win SOLIDAR Award for Struggle for Human Rights http://www.solidar.org/Page_Generale.asp?DocID=13955&thebloc=23686
Colombia is the most dangerous country in the world to be a trade unionist. In 2008, 49 trade unionists were murdered, a 25% increase from the year before. This escalation in violence directly contradicts the claims of the Uribe regime that the situation is improving. One of the 49 trade unionists killed was a pregnant teacher by the name of Luz Mariela Diaz Lopez, a member of the Putumayo Educators Association, who was shot on 1 April 2008 in the Guamez valley, Putumayo. Another trade unionist, Emerson Ivan Herrera, was killed alongside her.
The litany of violence does not stop with the killings. Thousands of human rights lawyers, journalists, students, indigenous activists and members of the political opposition have been forcibly disappeared, with torture, death and imprisonment a daily occurrence. Today, 3.6 million Colombians are considered internally displaced people, making it the country with the second highest displaced population in the world. “Impunity for such crimes is almost absolute and this issue remains at the core of the country's human rights crisis. Successive Colombian administrations have allowed the perpetrators of widespread and severe human rights violations to escape punishment and this lack of action by the State has given a virtual green light for the abuses to continue”, said Luis Miguel Morantes Alfonso, President of the CTC.
“Reports show that the situation in Colombia is just getting worse. By awarding the Colombian trade unions with this SOLIDAR Silver Rose Award, we hope to raise awareness of the severe situation and show solidarity with the Colombian trade unions that are carrying out important work to organise Colombian workers: workers who are working under bad conditions, in dangerous working environments, with low salaries, and with no or little social protection”, said Conny Reuter, Secretary General of SOLIDAR.
In addition to the abuse of human rights, Colombian workers suffer from a severe deficit of decent working conditions.“Labour law and policy still exclude more than two thirds of workers from social and worker protection measures, by denying basic workers’ rights to over 12 million people. The law and practices of the Colombian State are contrary to the principles of decent work, leaving nearly 70% of workers in a precarious employment situation”, concluded Percy Oyola Palomá, Deputy Secretary General of the CGT

Human Rights Watch, a US-based group claiming to be a non-governmental organization, but which is in fact funded by government-linked quasi-private foundations and a Congressional funded political propaganda organization, the National Endowment for Democracy, has issued a report “A Decade Under Chavez: Political Intolerance and Lost Opportunities for Advancing Human Rights in Venezuela” (9/21/2008 hrw.org).
118 scholars from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, México, the United States, the U.K., Venezuela, and other countries publicly criticized HRW for a perceived bias against the government of Venezuela. The open letter criticized the report by stating that it "does not meet even the most minimal standards of scholarship, impartiality, accuracy, or credibility

Colombia’s bad indians’ uprising: meeting with Cauca indigenoushttp://www.bilaterals.org/article.php3?id_article=13521&lang=es
Indigenous Colombians, along with campesinos, Afro-Colombians, women, and the urban poor, are among the groups that have suffered the most from Uribe’s Democratic Security policy and the U.S.-financed Plan Colombia. The Permanent People’s Tribunal of Colombia issued a statement in July warning of “the imminent danger of physical and cultural extinction faced by 28 indigenous groups,” in Colombia. The tribunal charges the Colombian government, armed actors, and transnational corporations with “the deployment of strategies that have the objective of expelling indigenous peoples from areas of economic interest...[and]...to facilitate the exploitation of these areas...by transnational corporations,” charges that the tribunal says amount to genocide. The next President of the United States of America must be held accountable for his policies in Colombia.

The country's urban unemployment rate has returned to double digits after a few years of prosperity, with an additional 30 percent of the workforce underemployed and toiling in the informal sector.

hairless.inspection: The holyQuran Sura At Tariq ( Chapter 86 verse# 6-7) mohammud says sperm comes notfrom testicles but lower back...a real moron...
rebuttal:lets look at the evidence, first notice the retard is quoting in english not arabic,no problem.
1. As Dr. Zakir Naik writes:
In embryonic stages, the reproductive organs of the male and female, ie. the testicles and the ovaries, begin their development near the kidney exactly between the spinal column and the eleventh and twelfth ribs. Later they descend; the female gonads (ovaries) stop in the pelvis while the male gonads continue their decent before birth to reach the scrotum outside the body through the inguinal canal. Even after the embryonic stage after the decent of the reproductive organ, these organs receive their nerve supply and blood supply (from the Aorta) and lymphatic drainage which is in the area between the backbone (spinal column) and the ribs
2. As Moiz Amjad writes:
although the male sperm is formed in the testes, yet the blood supply which, obviously, is integral to the making of the sperm comes from between the ribs and the back...the cells that form the sperm originate from between the ribs and the back. If this is true, then the words of the Qur'an are not scientifically incorrect, as the words "emanating from a place between the (lower) back and the (lower) ribs", do not necessarily imply "emanating in its final shape" only, but can also cover "initial emanation".
Dr Zakir Naik (Muslim) Vs Dr William Cambell(Christian), Christian lost miserably.

Fertilization
Let us now isolate, from all these verses, precise ideas concerning the complexity of the semen and the fact that an infinitely small quantity is required to ensure fertilization. In chapter al-Insaan the Qur’an states:
“Verily, I created humankind from a small quantity of mingled fluids.” Qur’an, 76:2
The Arabic word nutfah has been translated as "small quantity”. It comes from the verb meaning ‘to dribble, to trickle’ and is used to describe what remains in the bottom of a bucket which has been emptied. The verse correctly implies that fertilization is performed by only a very small volume of liquid.
On the other hand, mingled fluids ( amshaaj ) has been understood by early commentators to refer to the mixture of male and female discharges. Modern authors have corrected this view and note that the sperm is made up of various components.
When the Qur’an talks of a fertilizing fluid composed of different components, it also informs us that human progeny will be formed from something extracted from this liquid. This is the meaning of the following verse in chapter as-Sajdah:
“Then He made [ man’s ] offspring from the essence of a despised fluid.”
Qur’an, 32:8
The Arabic word translated by the term ‘essence’ is sulaalah which means ‘something extracted, the best part of a thing’. In whatever way it is translated, it refers to part of a whole. Under normal conditions, only one single cell, spermatozoon, out of over 50 million ejaculated by a man during sexual intercourse will actually penetrate the ovule.
Implantation
Once the egg has been fertilized in the fallopian tube, it descends to lodge itself inside the uterus. This process is called the ‘implantation of the egg’. Implantation is a result of the development of villosities, which, like roots in the soil, draw nourishment from the wall of the uterus and make the egg literally cling to the womb. The process of implantation is appropriately described in several verses by the word ‘alaq, which is also the title of the chapter in which one of the verses appears:
“God fashioned humans from a clinging entity.” Qur’an, 96:2
I do not think there is any reasonable translation of the word ‘alaq other than to use it in its original sense. It is a mistake to speak of a ‘blood clot’ here, which is the term Professor Hamidullah uses in his translation. It is a derivative meaning which is not as appropriate in this context.
Embryo
The evolution of the embryo inside the maternal uterus is only briefly described, but the description is accurate, because the simple words referring to it correspond exactly to fundamental stages in its growth. This is what we read in a verse from the chapter al-Mu’minoon:
“I fashioned the clinging entity into a chewed lump of flesh and I fashioned the chewed flesh into bones and I clothed the bones with intact flesh.” Qur’an, 23:14
The term ‘chewed flesh’ (mudghah) corresponds exactly to the appearance of the embryo at a certain stage in its development.
It is known that the bones develop inside this mass and that they are then covered with muscle. This is the meaning of the term ‘intact flesh’ (lahm).
The embryo passes through a stage where some parts are in proportion and others out of proportion with what is later to become the individual. This is the obvious meaning of a verse in the chapter al-Hajj, which reads as follows:
“I fashioned (humans) a clinging entity, then into a lump of flesh in proportion and out of proportion.” Qur’an, 22:5.
Next, we have a reference to the appearance of the senses and internal organs in the chapter as-Sajdah:
“... and (God) gave you ears, eyes and hearts.” Qur’an, 32:9
Nothing here contradicts today’s data and, furthermore, none of the mistaken ideas of the time have crept into the Qur’an. Throughout the Middle Ages there were a variety of beliefs about human development based on myths and speculations which continued for several centuries after the period. The most fundamental stage in the history of embryology came in 1651 with Harvey’s statement that “all life initially comes from an egg”. At that time, when science had benefited greatly from the invention of the microscope, people were still arguing about the respective roles of the egg and spermatozoon. Buffon, the great naturalist, was one of those in favor of the egg theory.Bonnet, on the other hand, supported the theory of ‘the ovaries of Eve’, which stated that Eve, the mother of the human race, was-supposed to have had inside her the seeds of all human beings packed together one inside the other.
"Now let man but think From what he is created! He is created from A drop emitted --- Proceeding from between The back bone and the ribs."
[AL-QUR'AN 86:5-7]
In embryonic stages, the reproductive organs of the male and female, i.e. the testicles and the ovaries, begin their development near the kidney between the spinal column and the eleventh and twelfth ribs. Later they descend; the female gonads(ovaries) stop in the pelvis while the male gonads(testicles) continue their descent before birth to reach the scrotum through the inguinal canal. Even in the adult after the descent of the reproductive organ, these organs receive their nerve supply and blood supply from the Abdominal Aorta, which is in the area between the back bone(spinal column) and the ribs. Even the lymphatic drainage and the venous return goes to the same area.

The Quran Does NOT Say that Sperm is Created from between the Backbone and Ribshttp://74.125.113.132/search?q=cache:WZkndo0Z7PwJ:www.ahlalhdeeth.com/vbe/showthread.php%3Fp%3D47286+quran+sperm+from+backbone+confirmed&cd=5&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=opera
Surah 86. The Morning Star, The Nightcomer
6. He is created from a drop emitted-
7. Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs
The translation used by Mr. David Wood is horribly inaccurate. The correct translation of ‘sulb’ is not backbone, nor does the word ‘tara’ib’ indicate the man’s ribs. Let us review the verse in question:
So let man consider from what he is created. He is created from an emitted fluid that issued from between the sulb and the tara’ib. (86:5-7)
Mr. Wood has understood the verse to mean that both ‘sulb’ and ‘tara’ib’ refer to the male. In other words, the fluid emitted refers to the semen, and it comes out from in between the sulb and the tara’ib. However, the truth of the matter is that the word ‘tarai’b’—according to the Arabic—is actually referring to a female body part. Much like the English word ‘penis’ can only be ascribed to a male, the word ‘tara’ib’ can only be applied to a female.
This is not apologetic modernism or revisionism; the classical works of Quranic commentary throughout the last 1400 years confirm this view categorically. In other words, the sulb belongs to the male, and the tara’ib belongs to the female. This is the view of the Muslims since the last fourteen hundred years, and there is consensus (ijma) on this matter, since the time of the Sahabah (the Prophet’s disciples) until today.
Shaykh `Abd al-Wahhāb al-Turayrī of IslamToday.com writes:
The phrase “mā’ dāfiq” (emitted fluid) is not restricted in meaning to sperm but is used in Arabic for both the sperm and the egg. Ibn Kathīr, in his commentary on this verse, writes: “It emanates from the man and the woman, and with Allah’s permission, the child comes forth as a product of both.”
…The words translated as “backbone” (sulb) and “ribs” (tarā’ib) are not understood in Arabic to belong to the same person. Arabs understand the “sulb” to refer to a part of the male body and the “tarā’ib” to a part of the female. Ibn Kathīr states: “It refers to the ‘sulb’ of the man and the ‘tarā’ib’ of the woman…” He then quotes this interpretation on the authority of the Prophet’s companion Ibn `Abbās. This same understanding is given in all the major classical works of Qur’anic commentary.
Many non-Arabs misinterpret this verse because they think that sulb and tara’ib refer to different body parts of the male. In reality, tara’ib is feminine, and refers to the female’s body part. For fourteen hundred years, all of the scholars have held this belief, and not a single classical scholar has ever differed on this point. The reason is that the Arabic makes it clear that tara’ib refers to a feminine body part, and not a male one.
Lane’s Lexicon says:
Tara’ib: … most of the authors on strange words affirm decidedly that it (tara’ib) is peculiar to women. (Lane’s Lexicon, p.301)
All of the major commentaries of the Quran confirm that the tara’ib is peculiar to women. Ibn Katheer writes in his tafseer (commentary) of the Quran:
It (fluid) emanates from the man and the woman, and with Allah’s permission, the child comes forth as a product of both. (Tafseer Ibn Katheer)
Tafseer al-Jalalayn says:
Issuing from between the sulb, of the man, and the tara’ib, of the woman. (Tafseer Al-Jalalayn)
Tanwir al-Miqbas min Tafseer Ibn Abbas says:
That issued from between the sulb of the man and the tara’ib of a woman.
(Tanwir al-Miqbas min Tafseer Ibn Abbas)

The Mismeasure of Manhttp://www.iq-tests.eu/iq-test-The-Mismeasure-of-Man-1110.html
Some scientists dispute psychometrics entirely. In The Mismeasure of Man, Professor Stephen Jay Gould argues that intelligence tests are based on faulty assumptions and shows their history of being used as the basis for scientific racism. He writes:
…the abstraction of intelligence as a single entity, its location within the brain, its quantification as one number for each individual, and the use of these numbers to rank people in a single series of worthiness, invariably to find that oppressed and disadvantaged groups—races, classes, or sexes—are innately inferior and deserve their status. A Snapshot of the Arab Education System in Israelhttp://www.adalah.org/newsletter/eng/sep05/comi2.pdf
While Thousands of Classrooms are Needed, the State Builds Only Dozens Each Year
The Facts:
• The accumulated shortage of classrooms in the Arab education system is estimated at
5,000:
o 2,000 classrooms are needed in schools (the Ministry of Education recognizes only
1,650);
o 2,000 classrooms are needed for kindergartens; and
o 900 classrooms are needed in the unrecognized villages in the Naqab (Negev).
• Rented classrooms: hundreds of millions of shekels (NIS) are spent each year on renting
classrooms. Although the cost of each hired classroom is NIS 30,000 per year, the Ministry
of Education allocates only NIS 8,600 per classroom per year. As a result, every hired
classroom creates a deficit of over NIS 20,000 in the education budget of each Arab local
authority (many of which are on the verge of financial collapse).
• In 2005, the Ministry of Education and the state lottery built only 180 classrooms in Arab
towns and villages.
• Since 2000, fewer than 200 classrooms on average were built per year in the Arab
education system. This pace of construction even fails to meet the natural rate of population
growth.
• According to the Ministry of Education, 40% of its building budget will be allocated to Arab
municipalities in 2006. However, the Ministry neglected to disclose that this budget supports
the building of merely a few dozen classrooms, thereby once more disregarding the needs
of the Arab education system.
• A significant number of Arab schools are operating under sub-standard physical conditions,
including safety and health-related hazards, which cause accidents and pose a real threat to
pupils' lives. In our estimation, there are currently around 2,000 hired classrooms and
regular classrooms which are not suitable for learning in the Arab education system.
1 Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), New Survey – Investment in Education 2000/1, Press Release 3
August 2004 (Hebrew).
The current Five-Year Plan for the Arab education system is about to come to an end.
• Schools in the Arab education system lack curricula, laboratories and computers for the
teaching of science and technology.
• In the Arab education system, there is a lack of funding for “integration hours” (teaching
hours for pupils with special needs who are being educated in the regular education
system), for paramedical professionals, for classes for pupils with learning disabilities, and
other necessary educational frameworks

PALESTINIAN EDUCATION UNDER ISRAELI OCCUPATIONhttp://asp.alhaq.org/zalhaq/site/eDocs/txtDocs/Presentations/Palestinian%20Education%20under%20Israeli%20Occupation%20-%20final.pdf
Palestinian education in the occupied territories.http://ir.canterbury.ac.nz/bitstream/10092/2482/1/Thesis_fulltext.pdf
This thesis provides an analysis of the nature of Palestinian education under Israeli military occupation. Confidential interviews, currently available field research, and a theoretical background form the basis from which the author has constructed a picture of the nature of Palestinian education under occupation. The major topics covered include a political history of the Arab-Israeli conflict including the adoption of the internal colonialism theoretical perspective; an analysis of the relationship between colonialism and education; the special significance of education to the Palestinians and the Israelis; an outline of Palestinian education under occupation with particular reference to the post-1967 era; an account of Palestinian life under military occupation which details the inhumane treatment of Palestinian residents of the Occupied Territories by the Israeli military authorities and settlers; the revolutionary nature of the intifada; the targeting of Palestinian university staff and students by Israelis for especially harsh treatment; the massive Israeli crack-down on Palestinian formal and informal education and the implications for the Palestinians of the widespread and prolonged closures of Palestinian schools and universities. The author concludes that the Israeli authorities have specifically targeted Palestinian education as an area which they want to maintain close control over. The Israelis desire the Palestinian population (particularly in the occupied Territories) to have only limited, token educational opportunities, in order to keep them ignorant, and passive. During the intifada then, the Israelis have severely disrupted all levels of Palestinian education. Widespread school and university closures have been used by the Israelis to collectively punish the Palestinian community and hinder their chances of developing a strong independent Palestinian infrastructure which could become the foundation of a Palestinian state.
